This was the first piece that I worked on to experiment with a watercolor quilt technique. I spent a lot of time moving the pieces around on the design wall for the right effect of the roses. I initially wanted the whole piece to shade out to the lighter colors, but it never looked quite right. Finally, like a lightning strike, I had the idea of cutting the whole thing in half and flipping it around! Then it looked like an eggshell half with the roses blooming out of the top. I knew that I finally had it when I saw it, so, after much agonizing over the design, it, of course, needed to be called "The Bloomin' Egg".
