This was a commissioned piece for a teacher who wanted a large wall hanging for her bedroom. I took the colors in the room and her love of roses and designed this three dimensional topiary out of pieced rose blocks. The rose bush has leaves appliqued and inserted randomly and there are some fallen roses and petals on the floor. I sewed a ribbon by hand to the rose bush "stem" and padded the vase for additional 3d effect. She liked the idea of framing it with a wide border to simulate matting. The result was elegant, but by no means simple!
